SUMMER ACADEMIC PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS
June 28 - July 30, 2010

Dr. Marilyn Joshua

Dear Parents:

I am most delighted to welcome your family to participate in the 27th annual Summer Academic Program for Elementary School Students (SAPESS) at California State University, Northridge. The goal of this unique five-week program is to create a learning environment that is both rigorous and fun for your children! I have identified and hired experienced highly qualified credentialed teachers to work with your children. Each teacher is assisted by a teacher’s aide – which helps us maintain a low student-teacher ratio in each class. I have identified seven (7) items that will assist you:

  1. Log-in Account. Check the status of your account and make sure your child has four classes. For your records, print a hard copy of your schedule of classes.
  2. Forms. Please return all four (4) forms (Insurance Consent, Waiver & Release, Authorization to treat a minor, Authorization to pick-up, Late pick-up & fees) within one week of registration. See forms link.
  3. Arrive on Time. Please arrive and sign-in your child before 8:15A.M. Kindly pick-up your child promptly at 12:45P.M.
  4. SAPESS Office Hours: Sierra Hall 120.
    • Holiday Schedule: School is closed, Monday, July 5, 2010 in observance of July 4th
    • Gear Up Week: June 21- June 25 (11 - 3PM). Walk-in and phone hours 11:00A.M.-3:00P.M.
    • SAPESS Program (5) weeks: June 28 – July 30, Mon - Fri: 7:30 A.M.-1:00 P.M.
  5. Parking. Parking Passes can be purchased online or by contacting the SAPESS office during gear-up week. Parking Passes are $3.50.
  6. Orientation Packets. Orientation Packets should be received in the mail the week of June 21. Please contact our office if you have not received one by this date. Family packets are mailed to each family in lieu of an orientation meeting.
  7. E-Mails. We are trying to make our site as interactive and as helpful as possible. We welcome your feedback; email your comments to sapess@csun.edu. Please make sure you have added us to your email buddy list as we send updates throughout the program.

The SAPESS faculty and staff look forward to providing an exciting and enriching summer. I am confident that your child will find this learning experience rewarding and meaningful. I hope that you will return to be a part of the SAPESS family for many summers to come.

Sincerely,

Marilyn Joshua-S
